A Victim of its Own Success: A History of Puppetry in Chinese Drama. This paper will demonstrate that it is impossible to truly understand the history and evolution of the Chinese theatre without studying the role of puppetry as a performing art. This paper will show the history of puppetry in Chinese drama from its origins at the time of the Han dynasty.
