Immortality
In Salman Rushdies first novel, Grimus, Rushdie tantalizes the readers sense of what the meaning of life may or may not be. The adventurous, and otherworldly, work describes the story of Flapping Eagle and his attainment of immortality. After living 777 years, Flapping Eagle realizes immortality is not all that he had hoped for, and seeks to become mortal again. It is through his adventures and his meeting with the creator of Calf Island, that the reader begins to question what, if anything, is in store for them beyond this existence.
